Guided Musky Fishing on Green Bay

Let’s Talk Fish!

Let’s talk fish now, the reason people want to come fish Green Bay is because the sheer numbers of big fish and the great average size. Green Bay pushes out HUGE fish in all the categories. Fishing is so versatile on Green Bay it definitely ranks at the top for the BEST Fishing charter in Wisconsin. I will break down a few species and season to best target them. Hopefully giving you a better understanding of the fishing on Green Bay.

Green Bay Musky

World record musky? Many people say Green Bay could produce the next world record musky. Every Year several 55”+ musky are caught by anglers. The size of the musky on the bay is very impressive. Most customers have never seen a Great Lakes Strain musky before. It can get very addicting chasing these toothy critters. Musky charters in spring, late summer and fall have become very popular for charter services. Putting clients on 50”+ musky is the name of the game. Casting or trolling depending on the time of year. Spring fishing is a mixture of trolling and casting. Both can be productive. Typically start the spring in the Fox River and other shallow areas throughout the entire Green Bay system. Late summer casting for big muskies is extremely fun too! You have to put your time in but the fish in the weeds can be big and mean. The late summer bite transitions into early fall and trolling becomes more popular. The Bay offers a wide variety of options for any musky angler. Green Bay musky fishing is one of a kind and should be on every Musky Fishermans bucket list.

Green Bay Walleye

Green Bay Walleye Fishing is probably the number one reason Green Bay offers the best fishing charters in Wisconsin. Casting for GIANT walleyes never gets old. Spring walleye fishing has become more popular year after year. Every YouTube fisherman has done more than one show on it. All the pictures of the HUGE spring fish caught every spring. Late March and April have become increasingly popular with fishing charters. Customers have a legit shot at a 10-12+ lb walleye every cast. Somedays it can be like musky fishing, but really chasing giant walleyes. Other days can be magical. In the end Spring fishing is one of the best times of the year to book a charter, as long as you’re not afraid of the cold. Conditions can be winter like but the fishing can make it worth it!

Summer and Fall Walleye

Summer and fall walleye fishing is when most clients like to book trips. The weather is warm and the fishing is good. Most of the summer is filled with a mixture of jigging and trolling. Catching eater sized walleyes is popular most of the late spring. July and August bring more opportunity for big fish. Jigging and trolling both producing fish. Fishing can be good on both the east and west shore. Providing lots of opportunity for charters all over the bay. Most captains run 20-23 foot fiberglass deep v walleye boats. I personally run a Ranger 621 powered with a 350 mercury verado. We run these “smaller” boats instead of a big head boat or a big salmon charter boat so we can be mobile. The fish move around a lot and in order to stay on the fish daily for your clients you have to be willing to travel.

Green Bay Smallmouth Bass

The Smallmouth Bass Fishing on Green Bay is also WORLD class. Fish in the 6-8+ lb range are not uncommon in the spring of the year. These huge females move into the shallows offering excellent angling opportunity to fisherman. Several major bass tournaments like Major League Fishing, BFL, and Bassmaster visit sturgeon bay nearly every year. Along with the great smallmouth bass fishing the bay also offers excellent perch fishing. The yellow perch population has been on the rise and just like everything else in Green Bay they get BIG! The daily bag limit is 15 per person during season. Some of the perch can be the size of small walleyes. The northern pike can also offer great “accidental” catches while musky and walleye fishing. They are also great eating believe it or not. If you learn how to take the Y bones out of them they are delicious.

Green Bay Ice Fishing

Green Bay ice fishing for whitefish can also provide great opportunity for anglers in the winter months. Ice fishing Green Bay for whitefish has become a huge attraction during the winter months. The same great walleye, musky and bass waters offer excellent fishing for whitefish though the ice fishing season. Door county fishing guides have been doing this for years.

It’s not too hard to see why Green Bay offers some of the best fishing charters in Wisconsin, or the even the midwest. The Excellent opportunity all season long to catch a wide variety of fish. Green Bay definitely hold some of the largest fish around, and good numbers of them. If you’re considering doing a fishing charter in Wisconsin or anywhere, definitely consider Green Bay. From Beginner to Expert there’s a species and season for all. Do your research before booking a charter captain or guide service. Make your time on the water safe and a memory that lasts a lifetime.
